Definition of Impeachment 

Impeachment is defined as an act of calling into question the integrity or validity of something.  The term impeachment means the process followed in deciding the removal of a person in a position from exercising all the powers and responsibilities that the position demands. The entire process of removal is impeachment. 

It usually applies to the President, Judges of judicial courts and other constitutional positions. 

                Impeachment of President 

The process of impeachment of the President is given in article 61. According article 61, if the President violates the constitution, he can be impeached.  Impeachment against the President is a quasi- judicial process carried out by the Parliament. 

The impeachment motion is introduced in either house of the parliament. The information of this proposal was received by the President 14 days ago. The notice of motion is signed by at least one-fourth of the members of that house.If a motion to this effect is passed by a majority of not less than two-thirds of all the members in which it is placed, it is sent to the other House for further examination. Power of the President to give an explanation in the second house himself or through any of his representatives .After the inquiry, if the second house also accepts the impeachment motion like the first house with a majority of not less than two-thirds of all the members, then from that day the office of the President is considered vacant.

    Till date there has not been a single occasion when the President has been impeached
