What is global Index Hunger-The Global Index Hunger is a tool that measures hunger on a global scale and country basis
The Global Hunger Index is calculated annually and its results are shown in a report released in October each year.
Starting- It was bulid in 2006. The Global Hunger Index was initially published by the US-based International Food Policy Research Institute and Germany-based Welthungerhilfe.2007, the Irish NGO Concern Worldwide also became a co-publisher.
In 2008, the International Food Policy Research Institute relinquished its participation in the project.
Calculation of Index- The Global Hunger Index is divided into four components.
1- Under nutrition- (weight loss with age)- insufficient calorie intake
2- Child wasting- lose weight according to height. proportion of children under the age of 5.acute malnutrition.
3- Stunting- Decrease in height with age.
4- Child mortality- Mortality rate of children under the age of 5.
Starvation was determined on a scale from 0 to 100 based on the value of these 4 signals. 0 is best score . No starvation . 100 is worst score.
